All of design starts with what I consider art to be: color, tone, composition, depth, scale, and creative inspiration. I compare it to a present. To an empty box, you add artistic elements one-by-one until you have created a completed gift. You close up the box, tie it with a bow, and pass it on.
Dreaming, literally and figuratively, of clothes, fabric, and houses has captivated my mind since I was a little girl, especially in the backseat of our family car. I did not understand (and still don’t to a degree) why I couldn’t find in stores what I dreamed of in my head.
My first interior design company was born in 2003 offering interior design options for nurseries and children’s rooms. Through the next 13 plus years I honed my skills at composition, balance, color theory, interior and exterior design, and navigating a client’s expectations, budget, and design principles. My tasks ranged from finding remnants for DIY curtains, to ordering custom bar stools with $300 a yard fabric. The most rewarding part of the design process was collaborating with the architect and builder to ensure what the client imagined was what they saw on move in day, even down to what individual stones were by the pool, to ordering custom stained glass. The constant in my life was adding chapters to my creative notebook in my head.
Like envisioning clothes I couldn’t find, I longed to combine the range of individual, creative elements in my design box to one place, my brand. patriciatisdale. Part of my brand now includes, Laurel&Pine Design. Laurel&Pine Design features products that highlight my custom artwork, digital design, and photography. I have searched for months to find high quality materials and products to showcase what I have created. Have a look!
